Its heart-shaped leaves turn to attractive shades of bronze, red, burgundy, or orange in the fall. Forest Pansy redbud is a popular multi-stemmed tree with small pink flowers. This redbud has leaves that are a deep red or burgundy color that turns green in summer. ![]() Redbuds enjoy rich, well-drained soils and shade. Ruby Falls redbud is a small weeping tree with reddish-purple flowers. They are prized as landscape trees because they are small (up to 8m only) and have lots of visual interest, such as zig-zaggy branches, fruit that look like reddish-brown, flattened snow peas, cheerful flowers, and romantic, heart-shaped leaves. Family: Fabaceae ( Leguminosae) Plant Type: Deciduous shrubs or trees Mature Size: Up to 30 ft. They are often planted in gardens as an ornamental tree. They have naturalized, however, so it’s difficult to tell their natural range. In Canada, redbuds are most likely only native to Pelee Island, Ontario, the most southerly point of the province. ![]() Species thrive as far west as California and as far north as southern Ontario, roughly corresponding to USDA hardiness zone 5b. Redbuds are deciduous trees with heart-shaped leaves and small purple-pink flowers that grow in clusters along the trunk and branches before their leaves even emerge. Cercis canadensis, the eastern redbud, is a large deciduous shrub or small tree, native to eastern North America from southern Michigan south to central Mexico, west to New Mexico. set our backyards and woodlands ablaze with their bright pink to purple blooms. Pink to reddish purple flowers are grown on old twigs, branches, and trunks. The Eastern redbud will greet you in April with lovely purple-pink flowers. There are many reasons why we are so fond of the eastern redbud tree. Eastern redbud is usually one of the first trees to bloom in spring. ![]()
